Working at Truffles as a customer service assistant is only one face of Mary Ann Hagon. Known as Mel to her customers, family and friends she leads a full and busy life. Sharing her home with her partner, teenage daughter (14), six year old autistic son, full grown dog, puppy, rabbit and 3 cats is still not enough! Twice a month on Saturday mornings, Mel can be found volunteering at her local PHAB (Public Health Accreditation Board) helping people aged 8 upward to enjoy arts and crafts and activities such as wheelchair dancing. Mel says she loves these sessions and it helps her to realize how lucky we are compared with some.
Still not enough? No, Mel decided to take on learning for the first time since leaving school, enrolling for her Level 2 Proficiency in Baking Industry Skills in September 2015. Completing the retail workbooks and knowledge questions, Mel says it has made her more aware of the theory behind her daily tasks. She adds that working with training advisor Karon Lucke and the support of her manager Katie Broad made the time fly by and gave her more confidence in her work role. Since completing her level 2 qualification Mell has now progressed on to her Level 3 Proficiency in Baking Industry skills and is working on projects to help develop management skills, increase sales/average spend per customer and is now in charge of all of the promotional window displays.
