The Worshipful Company of Bakers Invite Applicants for Student Bursaries and Awards 2016

The Worshipful Company of Bakers Education & Research Foundation is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of bursaries and awards to bakery students and trainees, and they are delighted to invite our students to apply this year.

These annual awards are highly prized and are designed to enrich the bakery experience of the winners and further their knowledge of the industry; whilst encouraging their innovation and creativity. They also provide a valuable opportunity for students to network with their peers whilst experiencing bakery training in a new environment, with a different approach, and with industry experts in their fields.

The Worshipful Company of Bakers is delighted to announce that, this year, two short courses are being offered at the award winning School of Artisan Food at Welbeck in Nottinghamshire: September 13-15th and September 19th-21st inclusive. During each of these courses one day will be dedicated to artisan breadmaking, one day to Viennoiserie and one day to flour confectionery. The theme for these courses is innovation and blue sky development. Successful applicants will be provided with a full set of bakery whites (not including safety shoes), full tuition fees, accommodation, meals and travelling expenses between the School and the hotel.

They are now inviting suitable candidates to apply for the awards. There are no specific criteria, but candidates should have already completed at least one year of their studies and should be at least 18 years of age. Furthermore, candidates must be able to demonstrate a commitment to a career in baking (for example through a history of bakery-related work experience) and a clear idea of their future career path after their course is completed. Work based learners are also eligible to apply for these awards, but must be able to provide evidence that their work is bakery-related. All candidates must ensure that they have their employer’s and/or tutor’s permission to attend the course.

This year, ALL applications should be made online via the Worshipful Company of Baker’s website: www.bakers.co.uk using the application forms to be found there.

The closing date for applications is Friday June 17th and any applications received after this date will not be considered. Successful applicants will be called for interview July 6th at the Bakers Hall, Harp Lane, London EC3R 6DP. Award winners will be notified individually before being announced on the WCoB website on Friday July 29th.
